Day 1
Arrival in Costa Rica

Our team will pick you up at the airport and take you to the hotel in the outskirts of San José. After checking in, you can spend the rest of the day at your leisure.

Day 2
Poás Volcano/Coffee Plantation/Arenal Volcano

After breakfast, your guide and transport will pick you up to take you to Poás Volcano National Park (one of the largest craters in the world). You will be able to enjoy the views from the crater observation platform and take a hike through the rainforest to the nearby Botos Lagoon (a former crater). Your journey then continues to a family owned coffee plantation and mill where you will learn all about sustainable coffee production. At the end of the day you will head out towards the Arenal Volcano region and spend the night in the area.

Day 3
Arenal Volcano

Your day starts off with a visit to Rio Celeste National Park. We start the hike through this Humid Forest ecosystem, with the chance to observe various animal species and exuberant flora. Along the walk we will discover the magnificent Rio Celeste waterfall, and also the place where the river dyes itself into that amazing light blue coloration and finally the hot springs (bathing allowed only at the springs) Walking time 3 to 4 hours, total 7 kms. During the evening you will relax in the natural hot springs in the middle of the lush jungle, spending your second night in the Arenal Volcano area.

Day 4
Sarapiquí

You will depart early for Sarapiquí, a region filled with flourishing tropical habitats and wonderful wildlife. You will make a stop at a privately owned natural reserve where you’ll enjoy a hike through the dense forest, learn about the cocoa bean and participate in the production of organic chocolate. You will spend the night in Sarapiquí.

Day 5
Sarapiquí/Turrialba

You can spend the morning at your leisure, exploring the surroundings. During early afternoon you will depart for Turrialba Valley, famous for its archaeological sites, abundant nature and white-water rafting. Overnight in Turrialba.

Day 6
Turrialba

Your day begins with a visit to the Guayabo National Monument, Costa Rica's most prominent archaeological site, recognized by the American Society of Civil Engineers as a World Heritage Site for its advanced system of aqueducts and cobblestone roads.

Located on the slopes of the Turrialba Volcano, 19 km north of Turrialba town, the Guayabo National Monument is the most extensively excavated archaeological site in the country. It covers a 218 ha area, which is mainly secondary tropical wet forest on valley slopes surrounding the visible site. It is strategically positioned between 2 canyons with the Turrialba Volcano to its rear. The stone and soil constructions of the Guayabo site are remains of a settlement, which was a political and religious center before the arrival of the Spaniards to Costa Rica. A small society lived here between 1000 B.C. and 1400 A.D, when the town was mysteriously abandoned. The ruins to be explored include large circular rocks; an aqueduct, still working 2,000 years later; a complex water containment system and an amazing cobbled stone road. Overnight in Turrialba.

Day 7
Turrialba

After an early breakfast enjoy a biking tour through the tropical plantations of CATIE (Higher Education and Research Institutions of Costa Rica). During the bike ride the guide will explain the great diversity of the forest and fruit plantations such as: café, cacao, sugar cane, citrus, plantains, bananas, macadamia, pineapple, mangostan, mango, avocados and many other exotic species from tropical countries. The tour ends with a visit to the Tropical Botanical Garden, which has a collection of some of the most important tropical plants in the world.

Depart in the afternoon towards Savegre Valley, to Savegre Mountain Lodge, set in the foothills of a mountain at an altitude of 2200 m/7300 feet. The lodge has 41 rooms all equipped with private bathroom, hot water, hair dryer, telephone, heating system, and safety deposit box. Other facilities include a restaurant serving homemade Costa Rican and International meals, Bar & Lounge, internet service at the lobby and restaurant and laundry service.

Day 8
Savegre Valley

This day is spent exploring and hiking through the cloud forest (acclaimed by birdwatchers from all over the globe), in search of the resplendent quetzal. You’ll have the chance to observe the thriving natural habitat as well as many kinds of wildlife first-hand. Once more, you will spend the night in Savegre.

Day 9
Savegre Valley/Uvita Beach

You will depart for Uvita; this last is a friendly beach-front town in the South Pacific Coast of the country that offers many recreation activities to its visitors. Alternatively, Uvita is the main gateway for exploring Marino Ballena National Park, a coral reef sanctuary and key whale-watching site (July through October). You will spend the night in a nice coastal ecolodge.

Day 10
Uvita Beach

During the morning you will visit Marino Ballena National Park where we will enjoy a kayaking tour along the coast and will have time to snorkel on its reefs.

An easy 45 minutes paddle brings us to Ballena Island where a lunch of fruit and cold drinks in tropical style will be provided. We will then snorkel around the island, observing the richest marine fauna in the area. Or, if you prefer, you may choose to simply relax on the island and explore the numerous caves. After an adventurous day we'll paddle back to the beach and return to the hotel.

Day 11
Uvita – San José

During the morning hours, you can explore the surroundings and participate in various activities at your leisure. By early afternoon, you will depart and head back to San José where you’ll spend the night.

Day 12
