Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival
At the time of your flight’s landing at Juan Santamaria International Airport, our staff will be there to pick you up and transfer you to your hotel in Costa Rica’s capital, San José City. Once you’re settled in your rooms, you’ll have the rest of the day or night off. You’ll be staying at Colonial Hotel.
Day 2: (B) Arenal Region
Early in the morning, you’ll start making your way towards Costa Rica’s northern region, La Fortuna. Before you get there though, you’ll visit Poas Volcano National Park. This colossal volcano possesses one of the largest craters in the world. You’ll find the observation platform right at the very edge of the crater, where you’ll be able to take in the magnificent view. Also, you can go for a trek through the rainforest and visit Botos Lagoon, located nearby. Once you’re done at the park, you’ll continue your trip towards La Fortuna where you’ll spend the night at Arenal Observatory Lodge.
Day 03: (B,L) CaÑo Negro Wildlife Refuge
You’re off to an early start to visit Caño Negro Wildlife Reserve. This place is a birdwatcher’s heaven since it protects a great number of bird species, some migrant and some resident. Furthermore, it is also a safe haven for various endangered reptile and mammal species; crocodiles, turtles, monkeys and the elusive tapir are among these. At the reserve, you’ll get to enjoy a boat tour down its life-filled waterways, spotting all kinds of animals on the journey. You’ll return to La Fortuna late in the afternoon. Once again, you’ll be staying at Arenal Observatory Lodge.
Day 04: (B) Monteverde
You’ll depart the Arenal Volcano region to make your way up the mountain to Monteverde, a wildlife sanctuary whose name in Spanish means ‘Green Mountain’. It is the home of a series of biological reserves and boasts one of the wealthiest ecosystems in the country and the world. Once you’re settled at your accommodations, you’ll have the rest of the afternoon off to explore the area surrounded by majestic cloud forests. You’ll be staying the night at Cloud Forest Lodge.
Day 05: (B) Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve
The day starts off with a visit to the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve, boasting 26,000 acres in size. Within its boundaries, you’ll be able to find 2500 species of plants, including 420 different kinds of orchids, as well as 120 species of reptiles/amphibians. You’ll get to trek through the reserve and witness the splendor of its wildlife. Afterwards, you’ll have the rest of the afternoon off to explore or rest at your freely. There are some interesting activities available in Monteverde, such as the Sky Trek and Sky Walk. Again, you’ll spend the night at Cloud Forest Lodge.
Day 06: (B) Transfer to Punta Leona Hotel
The following day, you’ll transfer out early in the morning towards the Central Pacific coast of Costa Rica. Punta Leona Hotel is a family resort located near Jacó Beach. It offers all kinds of entertainment for people of all ages. After leaving your things and settling in your rooms, you’ll head out to participate in the Sky Way tour. This consists in a guided hike down nature trails that cross the tropical rainforests and include a series of hanging bridges that allow you to observe the canopy. You’ll spend the night at Punta Leona Hotel.
Day 07: (B) Carara National Park
The day starts off with a visit to Carara National Park, one of the few places in Costa Rica where you can observe the endemic scarlet macaw. You’ll go for a hike through its transitional forests (high mountain ranges and the lowland tropical humid forests). Your guide will share the highlights of the park with you and provide all kinds of information. Along the way, you’ll get to observe many different species of birds and other types of wildlife. Once more, you’ll spend the night at Punta Leona Hotel.
Day 8: (B) Departure
Our staff will take care of your transfer to the airport according to the time of your flight. We’ll help you with your departure and wish you a safe return home.
